Auto GP - Jan Charouz got second place for Charouz-Gravity Racing
(12.07.2010)
Jan Charouz scored his best result of the AutoGP season at Magny Cours after he finishd second in the eight race of the championsip. His team-mate esteba Guerrieri added more points thanks to 5th place and also third driver of the Charouz-Gravity Racing team Adrien Tambay got point after he set fastest lap of the race. The grid of the Sunday’s sprint race is determined by the results of the race 1 with top 8 reversed. Thanks to 5th (Charouz) and 6th (Guerrieri) places the team had two drivers in the second row. Tambay who had led majority of the first race but had to retire on the penultimate lap was at the back.
Charouz made a great start and moved immediately from fourth to second. Guerrieri was fifth but the race was neutralized by the safety car after two cars crashed. The race was restarted after one lap. Charouz who is official Renault F1 reserve driver this season tried to attack race leader Iaconelli but later focused on keeping second place and he duly managed it. The young Praguer added more important points to his tally. He is 5th in the standings but with the same points like third Iaconelli and fourth Tappy.
Guerrieri was running alone 5th in the second half of the race. The Argetinian managed to score points in both races during his debut in the AutoGP. Tambay did not have many chances in the short race to move forwards. The Frenchman therefore pitted before the end and change tyres. He set the fastest lap on new rubber and at least got a point.
Jan Charouz: “I am very happy that I managed to get another podiumafter Spa Francorchamps and moreover I did one place better. I would be nice to keep this trend for next race. I tried to get by Iaconelli after the start but unfortunately it was not possible. The car was oversteering slightly. I was therefore never quick enough on the exit to the long straight and the heirpin at the end is probably the only place where you can overtake at Magny Cours. Overall it was very good weekend as we scored important points and we are in a promising position before the last third of the season.“
Esteban Guerrieri: “Unfortunately I did not have a good start today. I tried different line to the rivals and it was not a good choice and I lost two places. I was close behind Tappy who was fourth after restart. I tried to be more aggressive but the rear tyres were not working well in the heat and the car oversteered more. My main focus was to get to the finish. I wanted to fight for a podium but it did not happen. I am still hapy that I scored in both AutoGP races and it was a good experience.“
Adrien Tambay: “It was big shame that I had to retire yesterday just before the end. There are no pitstops in the second race and it is difficult to overtake. It was the reason why we decided to put on new tyres before the end and try to get the fastest lap which earns one point but it is just a small satisfaction. I had hoped for better result in my home races. The team once again showed that is very strong. Our focus will now be on the last two events of the season and try to get maximum out of them.”
