Gravity-Charouz Racing signs J. Charouz and B. Hartley for Formula Renault 3.5 in 2010


pictureGravity-Charouz Racing, the brand new team participating in the Formula Renault 3.5 category of the 2011 World Series by Renault, will be represented by drivers Jan Charouz and Brendon Hartley. While Czech driver Jan will complete his second season in the series, it will be the third for the New Zealander Brendon.

The Gravity-Charouz Racing team enters the 2011 World Series by Renault with two cars driven by Jan Charouz and Brendon Hartley. Jan Charouz, the Lotus Renault GP reserve driver, completed his maiden Formula Renault 3.5 season in 2010 racing for the British team, P1 Motorsport. His best results were two second places finishes at Brno Circuit and the Hungaroring. In the overall classification Jan Charouz finished in 18th position.

Brendon Hartley is one of the more experienced WSR drivers. He completed in selected Formula Renault 3.5 rounds in 2009, when he combined his WSR programme with his F1 reserve driver duties for Red Bull Racing and Scuderia Toro Rosso. . In the 2010 season, the New Zealand driver completed most of the races with Tech 1 Racing team, while for the end of the year he replaced the injured Jan Charouz at P1 Motorsport. Hartley’s best result in Formula Renault 3.5 is a second place at Monaco in 2009. In the 2010 championship classification he finished in 10th position.
Jan Charouz: “In the 2011 season I would like to finish in the top five regularly. Last year, I completed my maiden season in Formula Renault 3.5 and I gained a lot of experience. For me it was the first complete season in single-seaters after quite a long time spent in sportscar endurance racing. I know Brendon Hartley very well. He is a strong and fast driver. I think our pace is comparable, so there will be close competition between us.”

Brendon Hartley: “'I am very excited about the upcoming season with Gravity-Charouz and truly believe we can fight for the championship.”

Antonin Charouz, manager: ”We are happy we have drivers like Jan and Brendon. Both have experience in Formula Renault 3.5, so they should achieved top ten positions regularly. Moreover, Gravity-Charouz Racing is honored to carry the black and gold livery of the Lotus Renault GP Formula1 Team.”

The World Series by Renault season starts on April 17 at Motorland Aragon in Spain. The Gravity-Charouz team will complete a series of testing sessions before the season begins . Both drivers will take part in testing at Valencia (February 25-26), Aragon (March 8-9), Barcelona (March 15-16) and Le Castellet (March 22-23).
