Gravity-Charouz Racing victorious on Lamborghini Super Trofeo final

pictureGravity-Charouz Racing finished the 2011 Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo season with the win clinched by crew Gerhard Tweraser and Filip Sladecka. Another team’s car was driven by Dominik Hasek, Czech ice-hockey star and the gold medallist of the 1998 Winter Olympic Games.

The last round of the 2011 Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo was held in Barcelona, Spain. Gravity-Charouz Racing team entered three cars – the most successful one was #77 driven by Gerhard Tweraser (AUT) and Filip Sladecka (SVK). Although they retired from the Saturday race, both Sunday races they finished on the podium as second and even first.

Filip Sladecka said: “In the first race I was involved in an accident. From my point of view it was my rival’s fault, however stewards appraised it as ordinary racing incident. I really enjoyed the second race. I had started from the last position on the grid and we finished closely second – for the first place we lost only 64 thousands of second. The third race was a faultless one and we won it. In the overall drivers’ classification I finished fourth, so I see the 2011 season positively.”   

Car #88 was driven by winners of the international competition organized by online betting company Interwetten. Czech ice-hockey goalie Dominik Hasek and Spanish driver Carmen Jorda achieved eleventh and twelfth positions in two races.

Dominik Hasek said: “It was a great experience. I mean, not only racing, but also an atmosphere. At the beginning of the weekend I had been little bit nervous, but after a while I started to feel comfortable. I am sorry for a clash with one of competitors, which occurred in the second race, when we were in the Top 10. Carmen is a great driver and I would like to thank her for the support. I am very happy I have participated in the Interwetten competition that has given me a chance to drive a racing car. My thanks go to Gravity-Charouz Racing team as well.”

The third Gravity-Charouz Racing team’s car #99 was driven by experienced Czech driver Erik Janis and Greek driver Athanasios Ladas, who made his debut in the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo in Barcelona. Janis and Ladas achieved the fastest time in free practice and qualified as third. The crew gained two fourth places during the weekend and unfortunately retired from one of the races due to a puncture.

Erik Janis said: “The beginning of the racing weekend was great, because I won free practice and qualified as third. My new team-mate little bit suffered by lack of experience, so I had to reduced the gap and I really enjoyed that racing. Unfortunately in the second race, while attacking the Top 3, we had a puncture and had to retire. Anyway, overall it was a great weekend.”

In the overall teams’ classification Gravity-Charouz Racing finished the 2011 Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo season in the great second position with 20 points gap to a the winner. Erik Janis achieved third position among the professional drivers. Jarek Janis and Tomas Enge share the eighth position but both completed only one round.

Gerhard Tweraser became the highly classified gentleman driver out of Gravity-Charouz Racing drivers and overall he finished third. Fourth was Filip Sladecka. Further named drivers represented Gravity-Charouz Racing in selected rounds of the 2011 Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo: Jakub Knoll, Petr Charouz, Jan Stovicek, Athanasios Ladas, Lukas Lichtner-Hoyer, Vitus Eckert, Dominik Hasek, Carmen Jorda and Stepan Vojtech.
 
Antonin Charouz, Gravity-Charouz Racing general manager said: “I am satisfied with results achieved in Barcelona. During the whole season we have been proving we have belonged to the best teams in the championship. I am very happy with the second half of the season, during which we clinched five victories and we reduced the gap to the leader Autocarozzeria Imperiale S.R.L. Congratulations to all our drivers and I would like to thank the team and our partners for the cooperation, which brought us thirteen podiums.”
