Gravity-Charouz Team set the fastest time in four of the five runs thanks to Richie Stanaway, setting the fastest time at 1:42.810 min.
Marco Sörensen and Richie Stanaway got behind the wheel of the Gravity-Charouz Racing cars between 28 and 30 November. Sörensen had been involved in testing with the Czech/Luxembourg team on the previous occasion in Barcelona where he achieved the fastest time and proved that Gravity-Charouz Racing is one of the best teams on the grid. New Zealander Richie Stanaway was new to the black-and-gold car at Motorland; he won the Championship title in Germany’s Formula 3 and has won one GP3 Series race this year.
Richie Stanaway won the morning part of the first day of the testing, despite the fact that this was his first time behind the wheel of such a powerful car and that he was not acquainted with the Spanish circuit. His winning campaign continued in the afternoon on Tuesday, and on Wednesday morning when he and his team-mate achieved a one-two. The New Zealand driver came fourth in the afternoon part of the final day. Nobody outperformed his fastest time of Tuesday of 1:42.810.
The second driver in the Czech/Luxembourg team didn’t do too badly either. Marco Sörensen set the eighth and sixth best times on Monday, losing approximately half a second to leader Stanaway. The Danish driver improved his results on Tuesday again, setting the fourth best time. Another improvement came on Wednesday when Sörensen added a second and a third position.
Richie Stanaway: “It’s my first time on this track and in this single-seater. I’ve enjoyed myself over the three days, in all conditions, and it’s a real boost to see your name up there in first. I’ve worked really well with the Gravity-Charouz team and I hope to be on the grid for the Formula Renault 3.5 Series in 2012.”
Marco Sörensen: “I feel good after the testing because we were fast. We had a problem with the brakes but we solved it and the car worked well. We had some problems with the fog at Motorland in the morning, which is why the programme started late. We tried working with tyres, primarily during long runs. The cooperation with the team is really very good. Everybody here works at their maximum and is fully concentrated on the upcoming season.”
Antonín Charouz, General Manager: “I am really happy for the entire team to have taken this route, as we see now that this was the right choice. Everybody is working to deliver their best, making the team improve. The testing turned out very well. It also shows that our Driver Development Programme, which we have built gradually together with a professional Formula 1 simulator, is delivering positive results.”
